The Couples Communication Handbook: The Skills You Never Learned for the Marriage You Always Wanted

The Couples Communication Handbook

For the past 15 years,I’ve worked as a therapist, helping clients with a wide range of mental and emotional health challenges. My experience spans individuals facing severe mental illness to those dealing with everyday stress, from children as young as 4 to seniors pushing 90, and from housebound individuals to large families visiting my office together.

About a decade ago, I discovered that my greatest passion and expertise lay in working with couples. Gradually, I transitioned from working with individuals to focusing mainly on couples and families, though I still assist individuals, particularly with relationship issues.

As I delved deeper into this field, I explored different approaches, devoured countless books, and learned from influential couples therapists (not all of whom are necessarily celeb therapists). Over time, I’ve developed my own method – one that builds on previous work but also carves out its own unique path.

A key aspect of my approach has been refining communication strategies, which are crucial for most couples. While communication isn’t the sole ingredient of a healthy relationship, it’s certainly a significant one. After over a decade of honing these skills, I’m thrilled to announce the release of my book, The Couples Communication Handbook: The Skills You Never Learned for the Marriage You Always Wanted.

If you’re familiar with my blog, you may have read some posts that touch on various aspects of communication; this book does a deep dive into that topic.

Here’s a taste of what the book covers:

  • Strategies that work—and don’t work—in marital communication
  • How to handle disagreements, whether they’re about principles, decisions, or even past events
  • Timing conversations: when to engage and when to hold back
  • Common conversation pitfalls and how to steer clear of them
  • Steps to take when communication breaks down
  • Ways to foster positive communication in your relationship

The book is packed with real-life stories (including some of my own missteps), straightforward explanations, and practical advice, including useful phrases you can implement right away.
